Celtic star to use Olympics as a shop window for interested clubs

Celtic defender Efe Ambrose will use this summer’s Olympics in Brazil as a shop window for prospective new clubs, according to the Glasgow Evening Times.

The Nigerian has one year left on his contract and is expected to be part of a clear out of players as new manager Brendan Rodgers reshapes his squad.

The 27 year old sees Nigeria’s participation in the games in early August as an opportunity to improve his options for a move away from Celtic Park.

Ambrose is said to be interesting Turkish side Fenerbahce but the three group games in Rio in early August come a month before the end of the transfer window.

It means that rather than returning to Celtic and playing in the Champions League qualifiers and at the start of the league campaign, he will be with Nigeria as one of the sides three over 23 players, and will then make a choice about which team he wants to move to after their participation in the games is over.

The Nigerian made just 15 starts in the Scottish Premiership last season after going down the pecking order since the arrival of Erik Sviatchenko from FC Midtjylland for £1.5million in January.
