After European draws on Monday and Tuesday, Celtic already know the challenges ahead in the first month or so of the 2019/20 season.

The Hoops were drawn against Bosnian champions FK Sarajevo in the first round of UEFA Champions League qualifying, knowing that they will face either Nomme Kalju of Estonia or Macedonian outfit Shkendija if they make it into the second phase.

Celtic will play the first leg of the test against Sarajevo away from home on 9th/10th July, with the return leg taking place a week later at Celtic Park.

It's a tough trip for the first match of the season, with a lively atmosphere and warm conditions expected in Bosnia.

How can Celtic improve next season? A Hoops fan tells us how in the video below...

The transfer window has only been open for a week but so far the Hoops haven't done any business. With a training camp in Austria taking place from this coming Monday and little time to bed in new players in preparation for the fixture we can likely deduce what Neil Lennon's side might look like on that opening day.

Celtic potential line-up

Clearly the bulk of the team is made up of Lennon's treble heroes that romped ahead of the opposition and again delivered massive success for supporters in the second half of last season.

The midfield and attack almost picks itself when everyone is fit and available, with the only real question mark whether the Hoops boss will go with Scott Sinclair or Jonny Hayes as an option on the left wing, or even turn to youth in Mikey Johnston.

With Kieran Tierney talking up the condition and fitness of the Hoops this week, and having returned to training himself after an operation, he'll likely take his place at left-back for the trip.

The obvious centre-back pairing right now is Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer, although with little recognised back-up, Celtic will need to hope neither suffer any injury or fitness set-backs over the next few weeks.

It's an area that could do with strengthening before the fixture.

The glaring weakness of the team is at right-back where the inexperienced Anthony Ralston is currently in line to get a big chance away from home in European competition.

With just 15 games for Celtic to his name so far, starting the 20-year-old in such an important fixture is far from ideal but could be a necessity if the recruitment team at Celtic Park don't get their act together in time.

The Hoops really should have identified and made their move for a right-sided defender by now, with both Mikael Lustig's and Cristian Gamboa's contracts expiring and Jeremy Toljan heading back to Germany after his loan.

Whether their inaction ultimately costs them remains to be seen, but with their lack of signings the Hoops appear to be taking serious defensive risks this summer.
