Speaking on BBC Sportsound, John Hughes believes that Celtic's Ryan Christie will surely be "on the radar" of Premier League sides.

What's the story?

His former Inverness manager, who once donned the Celtic hoops himself, has paid Christie high praise after a brilliant display against Nomme Kalju in the Champions League qualifiers. Two goals in the Hoops' 5-0 win has led Hughes to eulogise about his former star.

Speaking after the comfortable win for Neil Lennon's men, 'Yogi' said: "We're all talking about Kieran Tierney, and rightly so, bigger and better things in the English Premier League. But Ryan Christie must be on the radar of big English Premier League clubs with these kinds of performances."

Hughes managed the 24-year-old at Inverness before the midfielder was sold to Celtic in 2015. Clearly a fan of his old player, the ex-Hibs gaffer has tipped him to follow in the footsteps of Stuart Armstrong, Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk and make the switch from Parkhead to the promised land of the Premier League.

The waiting game

Christie is coming off the back of a stellar campaign last year where he established himself as first-team regular over his 38 appearances, and he's already shown signs that he'll be even better this season at Celtic Park, but is he ready for his big move to England?

The 24-year-old was on the cusp of really nailing down the number ten role at the club last season before injury curtailed his progress. He'd just about ousted the unreliable Tom Rogic from the starting XI but a serious head injury ended his season prematurely.

Lennon's men completed the treble treble without him but they did often look a side lacking creativity in his absence, scoring just eight times in the five games without him. So he is clearly an incredibly impactful player, but one feels he should wait at least another season before trying his luck on the biggest stage in world football.

There's no doubting his ability, he directly contributed to 20 goals in his 38 games last season, but if he were to leave now it wouldn't be the wisest decision, as he may end up a squad player like Armstrong at Southampton, especially considering he has only just established himself as a Bhoys regular in the last 12 months or so.

One more year where he maintains this stunning early season form would give him a great chance of joining a Premier League club as an important player ready to go straight into the starting XI, like van Dijk and Wanyama did. Hughes' suggestion feels like it has come 12 months too soon.
