Odsonne Edouard has been in red-hot form for Celtic this season and, with the Euros set to take place this summer, the subject of his international future is beginning to gain prominence.

What's the word?

Indeed, Christopher Jullien has recently opened up on his career at Paradise thus far and paid his compatriot and teammate a huge compliment.

While speaking to The Times, the centre-back, who was signed for a £7m fee in the summer, was asked about Edouard's international future.

He has scored a startling 11 goals in six appearances for France's U21 side and clearly his talents are wasted at youth level.

And that's an opinion certainly shared by Jullien, who has tipped him to break into the senior squad.

“He could,” said Jullien. “Why not? I think he could. The French team have a lot of good players, I think it’s one of the best teams in the world so it’s not easy.

"He has to work for it. But I think in his mind he wants to and I’m sure if he works hard enough it will come.

"Odsonne is now the best young striker of the French national scene, so why not? Why not aspire to be a Celtic player in the French national team. That would be great.”

Huge backing

Breaking into the France national team is no mean feat - just ask Aymeric Laporte.

The Manchester City centre-back has been in brilliant form for the club since signing from Athletic Bilbao, inspiring the club to back-to-back Premier League titles in the process, but he has only been called up to the squad by Didier Deschamps on one occasion.

Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, he suffered a major injury setback just days after being called up and now faces a huge battle to play his way into the Euro 2020 squad.

Laporte's struggle illuminates the strength in depth Deschamps has at his disposal, and that's a challenge Edouard will also have to overcome.

It's a huge claim from Jullien to suggest the forward with 16 goals in all competitions this season could break into the squad given Deschamps can call upon Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Alassane Plea and Wissam Ben Yedder in attacking positions.

However, Edouard is doing everything in his power to impress the World Cup winning manager ahead of the international tournament and a continuation of his form this season will surely give him an outside chance of earning selection.

The prospect of going to Euro 2020 may well give the Hoops' talisman an extra motivation to perform in the final months of the SPFL season.
