Celtic’s recently improved form kicked up a gear this weekend as they emphatically dispatched league leaders Hearts by a 5-0 scoreline at Celtic Park. The magnificent victory cut the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to one point with the Bhoys still holding a game in hand.

At this rate Brendan Rodgers’ reigning champions look set to kick on and claim the title once again. However, their European exploits leave plenty more to be desired.

Having failed to reach the Champions League group stage for the first time in Rodgers’ reign, the Scottish giants are on course to be eliminated in the group stage of the Europa League. If the Hoops are to compete on the continental stage they must improve their squad.

Rodgers’ side boast a solid defence and an impressive attacking contingent, but they’re less well off in the middle of the park. With Scott Brown ageing, Celtic must soon find a new top-class midfield partner for Olivier Ntcham. Bringing in such a figure in January would give him time to settle and bed in ahead of next season’s European campaign.

What do you think, Celtic fans - what area of the squad should Rodgers’ prioritise his spending on in January?
