It was a rollercoaster of a summer transfer window for Celtic, which began slowly but ended with a hectic flurry of intense speculation, drama and activity. Now, though, the market has closed, the dust has settled, and boss Brendan Rodgers can get on with trying to secure a third successive Scottish Premiership title.
The reigning champions were able to strengthen their squad over the summer, and also managed to retain the services of Olivier Ntcham, Kieran Tierney and Dedryck Boyata. However, exciting young striker Moussa Dembele left Celtic Park to join Lyon in Ligue 1.
Overall, Rodgers was able to introduce six new faces to his squad, on either loan deals or a permanent basis. The permanent arrivals came in the form of goalkeeper Scott Bain, left-back Emilio Izaguirre, midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu and striker Odsonne Edouard. Meanwhile, centre-back Filip Benkovic and teenaged attacker Daniel Arzani came in on loan from Leicester City and Manchester City respectively.
Edouard stands out. The 20-year-old striker spent a bright loan spell with Celtic last season and has now returned to the club on a permanent basis from PSG in exchange for a club-record fee. He has big boots to fill as Dembele’s successor, but the France under-19 international undoubtedly has huge potential. He is surely the Bhoys’ most exciting capture of the summer.
What do you think, Celtic fans? Who do you think has been the club’s smartest acquisition this summer?
