As reported by The Daily Record, Celtic midfielder is set to make a surprising switch to Serie B side Bari this January.

What's the story?

The 21-year-old has found it difficult to break into Brendan Rodgers' plans at Celtic Park, with competition fierce for midfield places at the club and space limited in the central areas due to the system the Hoops boss employs.

The Daily Record report that Italian side Bari are ready to make their move next month for him and have offered to take him on a week-long trial to assess his ability.

The Serie B outfit are pushing for promotion into the Italian top-flight, currently three points behind league leaders Palermo.

It'd certainly be surprising to see Henderson leave Scottish shores but he has had an interesting, varied career up to this point so perhaps it's a move that could be the making of him.

Hidden potential

Having already won national trophies with Celtic, Rosenborg and Hibernian, Henderson has had a successful start to his young career and now it's time for Celtic to let him realise his full capabilities elsewhere.

Despite not getting a game for the Hoops, Henderson still holds plenty of potential to continue that trophy success elsewhere be it in Scotland or abroad, potential that is not being fully realised playing for the Hoops' Development Squad.

He's made just one appearance for Brendan Rodgers' side this season and although you wouldn't exactly say that's an error on the Celtic boss' part, it's no good for Henderson on a personal level to not be playing at a critical stage in his career.
