Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers should make a move for Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi to bolster his limited attacking options and improve his squad.

What’s the situation?

The Bhoys have just three strikers in their squad after Frenchman Mousa Dembele was allowed to leave for Lyon on deadline day in a £19.7m deal, but his goals and impact on the team will be difficult to replace after the now 22-year-old netted 51 times in all competitions during his two year stay at Parkhead.

Former loanee Odsonne Edouard, 28-year-old Leigh Griffiths and youngster Michael Johnston are now the only options available to Rodgers and he would be wise to look at the free-agents that are currently available.

The Northern Irishman’s side currently sit second in the Scottish Premier League after winning three and losing one of their opening four games, with the only defeat coming at the hands of Hearts, who have taken maximum points and sit just ahead of Celtic.

Quality available

Former Manchester United striker Rossi is now a free-agent after leaving Italian side Genoa in the summer, and the 31-year-old would be a fantastic addition to Rodgers’ squad at Celtic Park.

A former Italy international, he has seven goals in 29 caps for the Azzurri and 127 goals in 335 total career appearances for his multiple clubs that have included Manchester United, Fiorentina and Villarreal but to name a few.

With Celtic competing on multiple fronts, both in domestic football as they look to add to the double treble and on the continent with the Europa League, they will need a large squad and Rossi could bring a cocktail of goals and experience at the highest level.
