Patryk Klimala’s arrival in Glasgow has been a strange one. Since walking through the doors of Celtic, the forward has failed to start a single league match.

In total, the forward has played a total of 101 minutes, failing to find the back of the net for the first-team.

For a player that cost Neil Lennon £3.5m, his lack of impact has been alarming. Journalists have revealed their concerns over the striker too.

The Athletic’s Kieran Devlin declared last month: “Klimala was always a strange one from the start, underlying reports were never that impressive. Seemed a bizarre move to sanction for that money."

And indeed, that money has been wasted thus far with the 21-year-old not making any impact.

With Leigh Griffiths witnessing a resurgence – he has scored seven goals in 2020 – it’s limited his game time even more, as has the return of Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Furthermore, he’s also behind the talented Odsonne Edouard in the pecking order. He is Celtic’s star man, scoring 27 times this term, so it’s no surprise he’s attracted the interest of the Premier League in the past.

However, news last weekend should have the Polish forward licking his lips and salivating at the mouth.

Football Insider revealed that should Edouard sign a new contract with the Hoops, then a release clause would be inserted into the contract at the striker’s request. An exact fee of what that could be hasn’t been reported, but they value the Frenchman at £30m.

Therefore, one would assume the clause would be around that fee. Although losing their top scorer would be bad news for Lennon and his side, it could be game-changing for Klimala.

Leicester have already pondered a £30m move for Edouard and in reality, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him depart this summer. After all, Celtic struggled to keep hold of Moussa Dembele when Lyon came calling with £19.7m.

Now feels like a natural time for the 22-year-old to exit Parkhead, especially after potentially claiming nine league crowns in a row.

With Edouard out the door, it would pave the way for more opportunities for Klimala. At the moment there is little chance of him achieving many minutes on the pitch but that could soon change.

This can only be good news for the Poland youth international.
