Revealed: 46% of Celtic fans don’t want club to smash transfer record to sign Jay Rodriguez

Celtic didn’t enjoy the greatest of starts to the 2018/19 campaign, but they have hit form in recent weeks.

Three consecutive Scottish Premiership wins in which they scored 13 goals and didn’t concede any was followed by a 2-1 Europa League victory against Red Bull Leipzig at Celtic Park on Thursday, which kept the club’s European hopes alive following previous defeats against their German opponents and Red Bull Salzburg.

The Bhoys lie in second position in the Scottish top flight going into the weekend’s fixtures, and manager Brendan Rodgers may well want to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window to ensure that they not only win their eighth successive title, but also advance further in Europe should the opportunity presents itself.

While Odsonne Edouard has been in prolific form in recent weeks, we at Football FanCast suggested that the Glasgow giants may need to add some more firepower to their squad to support the Frenchman and compete with Leigh Griffiths in the New Year.

Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion attacker Jay Rodriguez has been in brilliant form so far this term with eight goals in 16 Championship outings, and he is a player that the Northern Irish boss reportedly wanted back in 2015 when he was in charge at Liverpool and the forward was at Southampton.

We decided to ask Celtic fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would like to see their club smash their transfer record – the Baggies reportedly wanted upwards of £18m for him when Burnley were keen in the summer – to sign the 29-year-old, but 46% said they wouldn’t as you can see from the results below.
