A majority of polled Celtic fans want Brendan Rodgers to turn to the inexperienced Mikey Johnston against Rangers on Sunday, clearly believing he has the skill to punish the Hoops’ city rivals.
Sunday’s match is a massive occasion with both teams having much to gain and much to lose in the battle for three points.
Victory for Celtic would see them have quickly burst the Steven Gerrard bubble, while a Rangers win would surely ignite talk of a title challenge.
Rodgers’ side have looked a bit one note in attack in recent matches, although Johnston has come into the team and looked a real threat in the final third.
At times he has lacked the killer decision making to provide the final ball, but he certainly has the potential to cause the away side problems.
Still just 19 years of age and with just a handful of starts at the club, selecting him to play in the cauldron of today’s derby would be a bold selection call from the Hoops boss.
Fans appear to want him though, with 63% of respondents to a poll we published earlier this week believing he can get the job done if given the responsibility to start.
