New Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has compared on loan Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts to fellow Citizens player David Silva.
Talking to the Manchester Evening News, Rodgers explained that rather than playing in a style of a traditional winger like City star Raheem Sterling, Roberts likes to cut in and create chances from the centre of the pitch similar to Spanish star Silva:
“Patrick is different to Sterling although similar to him in that he is young. Raheem is speed, wing play, Patrick is more a David Silva type, more on the inside. He looks like he has an eye for goal. He’s very young and he looks a talent.”
Roberts is on loan at Celtic Park until the end of the 2016/17 season and the Hoops recently won their battle with the English FA, according to the Daily Record, to keep Roberts in order for him to play in the Champions League qualifiers in mid July.
The 19 year old was expected to join up with England’s Under-19s for the European Championship, but it is believed the FA will allow the player to skip the tournament to gain more experience in playing in the Champions League qualifiers.
