He has been a bit of an enigma at times this season but against Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday night, Patrick Roberts proved that he can deliver on the big stage.
Replacing James Forrest after an hour, the Londoner created the two chances that have been the main talking points since the final whistle blew.
In the 74th minute his defence splitting pass led to Julian Korb being red carded, with Moussa Dembele equalising from the resulting penalty.
Then with two minutes left to play, Roberts sent through the perfect pass for Callum McGregor who unfortunately sent his shot wide of goal.
Those two moments proved that there is much more to Roberts than just trickery on the wing; teams pay big money for players that can open up Champions League defences.
So far this season the choice for Brendan Rodgers has been between Roberts and James Forrest, with the Scotland man grabbing his chance with both hands when Roberts was out injured.
While Forrest’s form has dipped a little over the last few games, Tuesday night’s match opened up the possibility of both being in the same team.
Putting Roberts into the ‘Rogic Role’ sitting behind Moussa Dembele and between Forrest and Scott Sinclair would be bold, but Rodgers doesn’t appear to be afraid of risk.
We’ll know at 2pm on Saturday when the team is announced, but have your say in the poll below – should Roberts start against Caley Thistle?
