Once again Celtic proved to be predictably unpredictable when it comes to the Champions League.

Domestically you can set your watch on the bhoys winning week in week out on their way to 6-in-a-row but against those pesky foreigners, you never quite know what to expect.

The Celtic side that drew 3-3 with Manchester City was barely recognisable to the team that flopped 7-0 two weeks earlier to Barca in the Nou Camp.

Drawing with City sent expectations sky high going into the home match with Borussia Monchengladbach but reality soon kicked in as the Germans dominated, then cashed in on two mistakes from Kolo Toure.

Expectations going to Germany were little more than enjoying 'a right good trip' and hoping that the hoops could make a decent game of it.

With Brendan Rodgers calling the shots every match and training sessions matter with the hoops boss assessing which players in his current squad have the ability to last the journey into the knock out phase of the Champions League.

It was no smash and grab, backs to the wall performance, over the 90 minutes Celtic matched their opponents in every area, if they had taken full points it would have been no less than they deserved.

The lessons under Rodgers are getting more educational, the players have clearly bought in with the Irishman's enthusiasm stronger than ever after last night's heartening display...

Borussia Monchengladbach v Celtic - UEFA Champions League Group Stage - Group C

The first 15 to 20 minutes looked a little like a compilation tape of some of Celtic's worst Champions League away trips.

Confidence seemed low as they stood off in awe watching the opponents that had won convincingly at Celtic Park a fortnight earlier.

Once Scott Sinclair had hit the woodwork belief soared, even through Gladbach took the lead soon after.

The German's were human after all with defensive frailties that were there to be exploited, Patrick Roberts opened them up more than once with Sinclair, Dembele and others realising that there is no justification for an inferiority complex.

He has seemed a little frustrated in recent weeks, trying to do too much and show-boating but last night in a 30 minute stint the kid from Manchester City demonstrated that he has the talent for this rarefied level of the game.

Complimenting his dribbling and trickery he can deliver passes that other players wouldn't get near to, Rodgers will now know that the time is right for a run in the starting XI.

The passes that created chances for Moussa Dembele and Callum McGregor are the type that make a difference at this level, a starting role against Barcelona is overdue- with James Forrest waiting as back-up if it doesn't work out for our on loan Messi lite.

Is there an unluckier footballer out there than Scott Sinclair?

At Hampden ten days ago it was the woodwork that came to the rescue of Matt Gilks, last night it was a similar story as a relieved Jann Sommer claimed the loose ball after another brush with timber.

In-between times Joe Lewis pulled off a worldy to deny the former Aston Villa man a goal in Celtic's 1-0 win at Aberdeen.

Last night Sinclair was at his best, playing with the confidence that the Champions League rather than The Championship is his true level.

Rodgers summer long chase for Sinclair barely excited the Celtic support, last night's performance again gave further credibility to #inBrendanweTrust.
