West Bromwich Albion midfielder Rekeem Harper is a transfer priority for Celtic this summer, as reported by The Daily Record.

What's the story?

With the paper stating that any deal for David Turnbull is dead, the Hoops are now moving on to fresh transfer targets ahead of the new season.

The report states that Harper remains high up on their transfer wishlist and he could be a viable alternative to play the squad role planned for the Motherwell man next season.

The Express & Star reported earlier this week that the Baggies prospect will sit down with new manager Slaven Bilic about staying on at the Hawthorns, with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.

How does Neil Lennon turn his doubters into believers? The answer lies in the video below...

Moving on from Turnbull

The saga surrounding Turnbull is reminiscent of the transfer drama last summer which involved former Hibernian midfielder John McGinn.

Ultimately Celtic are probably making the right call in not bowing to Turnbull's contract demands and need for first-team assurances, but the fact is another young Scottish talent is leaving the country rather than choosing to make his name at Celtic Park.

It's not the best look for a club that prides itself on developing young talent.

Moving on from it all quickly with the capture of Harper would prove to supporters that missing out on the Motherwell prospect is no big deal, and that Neil Lennon's midfield will have plenty of depth heading into next season.

The 19-year-old has made an impressive breakthrough at West Brom, starting 23 times last season.

The fact Bilic is keen on keeping him for their promotion bid next term speaks volumes and demonstrates he'll have the quality to compete for first-team places at the Hoops.

Getting him embedded into the squad prior to upcoming European qualifiers should now be a priority for the recruitment team at Celtic Park, alongside strengthening their weakened defence.
