Celtic have started the ball rolling on a summer deal for Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset, according to website Football Insider.

What's the story?

The Daily Mail linked the forward with a move to Celtic Park earlier this month, but Football Insider now report that the Hoops have made an approach to third parties about arranging a move for the Frenchman ahead of the new season.

Celtic need reinforcements in attack with Timo Weah and Oliver Burke returning to their parent clubs after half-season loans and Leigh Griffiths having still not returned after off the field problems.

Vakoun Bayo has yet to feature in any meaningful way either since joining in January.

That leaves just Odsonne Edouard available and Football Insider reckon that the £3.15m-rated Mousset would be keen on a move to Scotland to develop in the same manner as his compatriot.

Worth a move?

23-year-old Mousset must have something about him to regularly make appearances for a Premier League side such as Bournemouth, but there's one major problem when it comes to considering his recruitment and that's his lack of goals.

He's made 71 appearances for the Cherries and managed to score just five goals, which is a dismal return even if you consider he's been utilised off the bench more often than not.

The Scottish Premiership may be more his standard, but surely Celtic must be pursuing talents more comfortable sticking the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis?

It makes Mousset a player to avoid this summer, unless the scouts at Lennoxtown are seeing something that everyone else isn't.
