Jim Craig wore the number two shorts in Lisbon in between shifts as a dentist and remained the first choice right-back until his departure five years later.

After a brief period Danny McGrain took over with all subsequent full-backs measured up against that legend.

The only flaw in Danny's game was in front of goal but having battled back from three major illnesses and injuries his goal tally can be forgiven.

Since McGrain left the club in 1987 Tom Boyd has been the only regular in that position with few contenders managing to survive beyond two seasons.

In recent times the position has been under threat with the introduction of a 3-5-2 formation and wing-backs with the current manager, Brendan Rodgers experimenting with that formation from time to time.

After a period falling out of fashion having full-backs comfortable receiving the ball from their keeper is all important with traditionalists still hankering for full-backs that can actually defend as well as get forward.

But who is Celtic's greatest right-back since that night in Lisbon? We've picked five candidates for you to look through before voting...

The team is based on players who have played since that afternoon in Lisbon, the Lions have been left out of contention for this vote.

If there's one position where there is no debate, it's at right-back. At his peak in the mid-seventies McGrain was without doubt one of the best right-backs in the world.

Building on from his three performances at the 1974 World Cup finals, McGrain was in exceptional form until a freak ankle injury, that was resolved by acupuncture, cut him down in 1977 and robbing him of another World Cup finals appearance.

As ever he returned to serve Celtic brilliantly with pace, exceptional tackling, a superb understanding of the game and ability to push forward to link up with strikers and midfielders.

Arrived at Celtic in exchange for Tony Cascarino in the middle of the bleak years. The failures of Liam Brady were replaced by the miseries of life under Lou Macari before Celtic and Boyd emerged into the bright sunlight of the rebuilt Celtic Park under Tommy Burns.

Trophies still remained elusive but on one memorable day in May 1998, the league trophy returned to Celtic Park with Boyd there to collect it.

In 2001, he shared the captaincy with Paul Lambert as the treble was claimed with his career petering out under Martin O'Neill.

Like Paul McStay, some of his peak years were the bleak years at Celtic but he got his rewards later on with his commitment to the club and the fans still as strong as ever.

CHRIS MORRIS

It was a relatively brief Celtic career but he certainly packed in some highlights and memories.

Replacing Danny McGrain was always going to be a massive task but in the golden season of 87/88 Morris was outstanding and even chipped in with a few vital goals.

Billy McNeill had no hesitation in signing him from Sheffield Wednesday, with Morris getting off to a flying start and taking instantly to the club.

Two titles and one Scottish Cup were collected before moving to Middlesbrough along with Derek Whyte, just as the bad days took over at Celtic Park.

Shuttled between right-back and wing-back, the £600,000 signing from Dunfermline played a major role through some of the club's most successful times.

He formed an instant understanding with Scotland U21 team-mate Simon Donnelly, a relationship that continued into management at Partick Thistle, Dundee United and York City.

McNamara's main strength was pushing forward but despite his slight build, he was tough in the tackle. He survived through the Burns era to play key roles collecting medals under both Wim Jansen and Martin O'Neill.

As the holder of five, and hopefully soon six league winners medals, the Swede is highly decorated.

The early appearances of the skinny bloke caused some alarm but he quickly proved his worth while competing with Mark Wilson and Adam Matthews for a place.

Sadly a double hip operation in 2013 has reduced his athleticism, but before that break he was one of the most influential players in Neil Lennon's side.

Now in the final year of his contract it looks like Brendan Rodgers is hedging his bets, with Cristian Gamboa earmarked for a place in the side.
