A reliable stand-in captain while Danny McGrain was injured and a more than decent penalty taker.

After a spell on the sidelines after being signed from Hearts, he was converted from left winger to left-back.

Like many he excelled during the 76/77 season, rounded off by scoring the only goal of the game in the Scottish Cup Final with his first Celtic penalty.

After that he was the regular penalty taker and captained the club through the bulk of the difficult 77/78 season. The following campaign he scored 13 times as the title was dramatically won.
