Following on from the one and only Tommy Gemmell was never going to be easy - how many left-back's have scored in two European Cup Finals?

In recent times it has become a real problem creating competition in that position, with Lee Naylor and Emilio Izaguirre virtually unchallenged.

Following on from Gemmell for a number of seasons was Jim Brogan, a fantastic club man caught between the Kelly Kids and the Quality Street Gang.

In character, not many will get close to the commitment of Anton Rogan and Tosh McKinlay who both enjoyed the successes that any fan given a chance dreams about.

In place right now, the club has possibly the biggest defensive talent to emerge in decades with the signs being that Kieran Tierney could be in place for as long as he wishes.

The left-back position tends to be one of the least fashionable in the team but in the spirit of Gemmell, it will always hold a special place in the affection of Celtic fans who watched or heard about the antics of one of Jock Stein's favourites.

But who was the best Celtic left-back since Lisbon? We've picked five candidates for you to consider. Cast your vote on the final page...

ANDY LYNCH

A reliable stand-in captain while Danny McGrain was injured and a more than decent penalty taker.

After a spell on the sidelines after being signed from Hearts, he was converted from left winger to left-back.

Like many he excelled during the 76/77 season, rounded off by scoring the only goal of the game in the Scottish Cup Final with his first Celtic penalty.

After that he was the regular penalty taker and captained the club through the bulk of the difficult 77/78 season. The following campaign he scored 13 times as the title was dramatically won.

EMILIO IZAGUIRRE

What an impact the Honduran had when he arrived at Celtic shortly after the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa.

Izzy swept up the player of the year awards for 2011 but an ankle injury early the following season hindered his progress.

Although failing to hit the same heights, he was a consistent performer throughout the Neil Lennon years without having any real rival for his jersey.

The emergence of Kieran Tierney effectively ended his Celtic career but his attitude hasn't wavered, there has been no tantrums and he hasn't let anyone down when recalled.

TOSH MCKINLAY

An inspired signing by Tommy Burns during the Hampden season, Tosh took to Celtic instantly which was no surprise for a life long fan.

Many of Pierre van Hooijdonk's goals came from McKinlay crosses from the left, most memorably the winning goal in the 1995 Scottish Cup Final win over Airdrie.

McKinlay continued to impress when the club returned to Celtic Park, thrilling the fans with a great attacking brand of football. Unfortunately the arrival of Stephane Mahe brought his memorable Celtic career to a halt.

ANTON ROGAN

Another who enjoyed a brief but very memorable Celtic career, the Belfast Bhoy survived two broken legs before completing his dream move.

It was a career of ups and downs but, like many, he made the centenary season memorable with charging runs down the left and great crosses into the box.

Anton must have been a close contender for man-of-the-match in the 1988 Scottish Cup Final and enjoyed playing his part in a historic season. His Celtic career ended when Liam Brady sold him to Sunderland, without doubt a jersey man.

JIM BROGAN

Was too young to be a Kelly kid and too old to be in the Quality Street Gang.

Initially he partnered Billy McNeill in the centre of defence before switching to left-back following the sale of Tommy Gemmell to Nottingham Forest.

Brogie was as hard as nails, sorting out a few 'issues' with Athletico Madrid players, and always pulled out something extra special against Rangers.

He played a lead role during the second half of the nine-in-a-row era and collected a total of seven championship medals.
