What a choice, what a selection, whoever gets to manage this Celtic side will be really spoiled for choice when it comes to picking a left midfielder.

Most successful Celtic sides have contained a hint of magic somewhere down the left, with the baton passed seamlessly from Tommy Burns to Kris Commons with no break in quality.

The role has been filled by various different types of players who have added their own special contribution to the team.

There has always been something a bit special about the left sided midfielder, with Burns setting the benchmark by enjoying a special relationship with the Jungle, where he often headed to share his goal celebrations.

Getting among the goals has been a regular feature of this position with the current custodian, Scott Sinclair maintaining that role to the present day.

Think carefully before you vote, who wouldn't want to have these five to pick from?

The fiery teenager quickly developed into a cultured midfielder after a few brushes with referees and Billy McNeill.

From 1980 to 1982 Burns was in incredible form as the midfield of McStay, MacLeod and Burns came to the fore.

The double shuffle was a speciality, especially in front on the Jungle as he toyed with opponents during a golden era of attacking football.

Off the park he had time for everyone, he played for the jersey and left us too early with his memories, quotes and determination to succeed.

JOHN COLLINS

Like Paul McStay, his best years were spent with the club in turmoil but he did stay around to enjoy a little success under the management of Tommy Burns.

Despite his natural skills no one worked harder on his game than Collins, in the gym and on the training ground nothing was left to chance.

Two stunning 'Predator-Inspired' free kicks at Ibrox will live long in the memory in a career that had more individual highlights than silverware.

ALAN THOMPSON

More of a left midfielder than winger, Thompson provided incredible service following his transfer from Aston Villa early on in the Martin O'Neill era.

Thomson filled the left wing-back role perfectly but could also put in a shift in the middle of the park.

Like all of O'Neill's signings, he was at Celtic to be a winner and could never settle for anything less. His eye for goal and set piece skills left plenty of memories, with goals away to Stuttgart and Liverpool helping on the road to Seville.

He played on the left, he played on the right but for the purposes of this exercise he can settle for a place on the left hand side.

So much was expected of the emerging McGeady that it was hardly a surprise he didn't quite deliver on the hype.

Gordon Strachan brought more than just ball skills to his game although the pair were later to have more than a few heated discussions.

McGeady gave Celtic great service during the Strachan years, then provided Neil Lennon with the transfer budget to restore the Hoops to power when he was sold to Spartak Moscow.

The £300,000 paid to sign Commons from Derby County in January 2011 has been repaid many times over.

Within five minutes of his debut, in a League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden, he had shown his quality and eye for a goal.

He spent most of the title winning 11/12 season on the outside looking in but played a massive role in subsequent title successes, including a haul of 32 goals from the 13/14 season.

His Celtic days now look numbered but he'll go out on a high leaving behind more than just memories.
