Wigan winger eyeing up return to Scottish giants

Scottish side Celtic are pushing to try and secure the signature of Wigan Athletic winger Shaun Maloney before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, according to the Evening Times.

Maloney’s proposed move to Premier League strugglers Leicester City broke down earlier this week, which has paved the way open for the Hoops to make a move for the player who has already had two spells at Celtic Park in his career.

The Scotsman began his playing days at Celtic, moving to Aston Villa for one season in 2007. He was back in Glasgow in 2008, before heading to current club Wigan in 2011.

The Latics will be looking to command a fee of around £1million for the player, which may see Celtic wait until the end of the season to make their move.

Maloney has made a total of 13 appearances for Wigan this season, scoring one goal. Celtic head to Hamilton Academical this Saturday hoping to cut the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Aberdeen.
