Some would say the Old Firm Derby is one of the most fiercest derbies in world football.
Rangers and Celtic’s vicious rivalry is well documented, and you’re either one or the other. You can’t like both. Oh no, you definitely can’t like both.
Celtic are currently dominating Scottish football after Rangers’ financial troubles over the last few years saw them having to start all over again. That means the Scottish Premiership has pretty much had the competition sucked out of it, with Celtic cleaning up each and every year. But surely that doesn’t mean anyone associated with Celtic would want Rangers to do well in order to spice the Scottish top flight up a bit?
Well, Celtic star Kris Commons has recently admitted that he would ‘love’ to see Rangers get promoted back to the Scottish top-flight this season…
He told the Daily Record: “Do I want to see them back up? Yes, because the games with Rangers are the best.
“They draw the best crowds, a large TV audience for people around the world. It makes people want to get out of bed in the middle of the night in Australia.”
Fair enough. Scottish football isn’t really the same without both sides going head-to-head for silverware each year, but what does he mean by the following? Is he revealing a secret admiration for Rangers?
“There are a lot of fans who are on the fence whether it’s right or wrong, but I love them.”
Is he talking about playing in Old Firm Derbies, or is he talking about Rangers specifically? Either way, surely it’s not ideal for a Celtic player to wish any luck or good fortune on Rangers, is it?
