Rangers sent out a statement to the rest of the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon with them brushing aside Aberdeen with a 5-0 win at Ibrox in front of a raucous crowd.

The Gers and the Dons get on almost as little as the former and Celtic, but this game did not reflect a close rivalry, more two sides that are on different paths at the moment.

For Aberdeen, it seems as though the days where they offered some kind of challenge for top spot - at least up to a point in the campaign - are over, whilst Rangers are genuine title contenders in Scotland this season and are now just a point behind their cross-city rivals in the table.

Among the five goals, full-back James Tavernier struck twice from the penalty spot - exorcising any demons that may have been lingering from his failure to convert from the same distance midweek.
