Earlier this week, The Daily Record revealed that Rangers manager Mark Warburton had travelled to Manchester to hold transfer talks with the 34-year-old.
Roberto Di Matteo already confirmed the former Premier League title winner will be leaving Villa Park this summer, telling reporters; “Lescott is looking to move on. I’ve read about Lescott joining Rangers but that is all I know at the present time.”
However, the Scottish champions still face competition for Lescott’s signature from Sunderland – who can offer him a significantly more lucrative contract.
The former England international was one of David Moyes’ most successful signings during his lengthy spell as Everton manager, making a £17million profit on a defender he originally purchased from Wolves for just £5million.
According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers expect Lescott to give the club an answer on his future within the next 24 hours.
Should he turn it down, the defender could move to the Stadium of Light.
