As reported by The Scottish Mail on Sunday, Rangers have made a fresh approach to bring Ben Woodburn to Ibrox on loan from Liverpool this summer.
Having already signed up Ovie Ejaria and Jon Flanagan ahead of next season, Steven Gerrard has wasted little time utilising his Liverpool connections in an effort to enhance his first team squad at Rangers.
Now it seems he’s on the hunt to add another recognisable face at Anfield – Welsh youngster Ben Woodburn.
That’s according to The Scottish Mail on Sunday, who say that the Rangers boss has asked Liverpool about the striker’s availability this summer, seeking out a loan switch for the player who is rated at £4.5m by Transfermarkt.
The paper reckon that the Light Blues could be left sweating for a few weeks however, with the Reds yet to make a decision on what is best for his development next season.
Woodburn is certainly a player that Liverpool regard has having significant potential. Under Jurgen Klopp, the player has already made 11 first team appearances despite being just 18 years of age.
In November 2016, he became the youngest ever goalscorer at the club, netting against Leeds United in the English League Cup action.
He now requires first team football to push on in his development and there’s no better place than working under Gerrard, a former youth coach of the Reds himself.
The youngster may not be guaranteed to start every week but would certainly depth and a bit of youthful enthusiasm to their attack that could prove very useful in a long, difficult season.
