Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was left far from impressed with some of his fringe players following the 1-1 draw with 10-man Dundee on Sunday.

The Glasgow giants had the chance to return to the summit when they faced a team that were bottom of the Scottish Premiership standings at kick-off, but they failed to take advantage despite the fact that the hosts saw Nathan Ralph receive a red card in the 20th minute – 11 minutes after Kenny Miller had given them the lead.

Andy Halliday did equalise with a brilliant free-kick, but the visitors were unable to find a winner and now lie two points behind Celtic despite playing a game more, but what did Gerrard's scathing comments post-match really mean?

What did he say?

The 38-year-old certainly didn’t hold back following another disappointing display in the space of a few days, and as quoted by Sky Sports, via BBC Football, he said:

"It is a reality check today that we are not good enough to make six changes. When you are given a chance, go and perform, give me a problem and a headache.

"It should make my job a lot easier because there will be less knocks at the door because, if players are honest with themselves and watch that performance back, I don't think they have a leg to stand on.

"People got a run-out today, a test, and failed miserably."

What do his comments mean?

Well, Joe Worrall, Andy Halliday, Jordan Rossiter, Ryan Kent, Eros Grezda and Kyle Lafferty were the players that came into the starting XI at Dens Park, and given Worrall and Halliday have been regulars this term and Kent was taken off at half-time with an injury issue, you would think that Gerrard's strong words were aimed at Rossiter, Lafferty and Grezda in particular.

The former was handed just his second Scottish Premiership start of the season and made just his 15th appearance for the club in total following his move from Liverpool more than two years ago.

Injuries have been a big issue for the 21-year-old and while he probably wasn't Rangers' worst player on Sunday, he did understandably look rusty at times and it appears as though he failed to impress Gerrard on what was a rare chance to shine.

The Liverpool legend certainly didn't mince his words in his post-match interview, and Rossiter's career with the Glasgow giants could now be over before it's even got going.
