Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react after their former academy starlet Billy Gilmour made his Premier League debut for Chelsea.

The 18-year-old shone for the Blues in their recent 2-0 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup, which earned him a first ever Premier League start as Frank Lampard plunged him in at the deep end against Everton.

Impressively, the teenager emerged from the game with the Man of the Match award tucked safely under his arm following an excellent performance against Carlo Ancelotti's men.

Gilmour completed more passes than any other player with 80 to his name - registering a completion rate of 91.3%.

Additionally, he made one key pass and completed two out of three long balls against the Toffees, in what was an extremely composed performance from the youngest player on the pitch.

Rangers failed to agree a professional contract with the Scottish youngster, before he left for Chelsea in a deal worth £500k - we presume that the Gers are regretting that fact each and every day.

Let's see how the Rangers fans on Twitter reacted to his Premier League debut...

To kick off the reaction, two supporters said that Gilmour would probably still be struggling to make it into the Rangers first-team had he stayed, expressing concern over their side's ability to integrate youngsters.

In fairness to Steven Gerrard's side, they do seem to have learned from this slip-up by tying Leon King - who was attracting interest from Tottenham, Manchester City and RB Leipzig - down to a professional contract recently.

Elsewhere, two other fans waxed lyrical over the teenager, with one saying that Gilmour reminds them of Barry Ferguson.
