Rangers are close to signing NK Osijek defender Borna Barisic on a £2.2million deal according to Sky Sports.

What's the story?

Barisic came to Rangers' attention after impressive performances in both legs of their Europa League qualifying tie against Osijek in which the Gers ran out eventual victors.

The versatile player is comfortable playing at left-back and left-midfield and was a constant menace down the Rangers’ right flank throughout the game.

The Croatian international, who is valued at £1.8million on Transfermarkt, would certainly provide competition for places at left-back and could form a strong partnership alongside compatriot Nikola Katic.

According to the report, Barisic is having a medical at Rangers and a finalised move is imminent.

Class addition

Barisic showed across the two legs against Rangers that he has serious class and was a threat in attack as well as being solid at the back.

He will be the latest acquisition in what has been a very strong summer in the transfer window for new boss Steven Gerrard but it's how the team gels on the pitch that will really show the success of his transfer business.
