Rangers have failed to sustain a strong title challenge in the SPFL this season under Steven Gerrard's leadership, but the Ibrox outfit are just as good, if not better, than their Old Firm rivals from back to front according to Gary Caldwell.

What's the word?

The Gers have slumped in recent weeks - winning just three of their last six league games - and have been cut adrift of Celtic in the race for the SPFL title.

Given their form since they returned from the winter break, it would be reasonable to question their credentials as potential title winners.

Celtic, by contrast, have returned with a bang and have won every single league fixture in 2020, but Caldwell believes Gerrard's men are a strong match for the Hoops.

While speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, the 37-year-old had this to say: "I think one to eleven Rangers are as good or possibly even better than Celtic, but I don't think Rangers know how to get over the line."

Barisic and Morelos at best

There are certainly some talented individuals residing within the Rangers squad but the fact they are ten points adrift of Celtic speaks volumes about the gulf in class between the two clubs.

Alfredo Morelos' return of 29 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season is more than enough to suggest he is a close match for Odsonne Edouard, while Borna Barisic's form from left-back, which prompted interest from Serie A giants Roma in January, has been of a standard that Celtic are unlikely to sniff at.

However, those two players are the exceptions to the rule.

That Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic, two talented players who'd almost certainly add a huge layer of quality to Rangers' midfield, have been unable to break into Lennon's starting XI in 2020 - both have entered proceedings as substitutes in each of Celtic's last four SPFL games - underlines the strength in depth at their disposal.

They may have emerged from the Old Firm derby with three points prior to the turn of the year, but Caldwell's verdict is well off the mark given the recent history of both clubs.
