As reported by The Daily Record, new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has yet to decide on who his number one goalkeeper will be next season, with all three on the books at Ibrox in with a shout of impressing pre-season.
Rangers currently have Allan McGregor, Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick on the books in the first team squad, with prospect Robby McCrorie supporting that trio as back-up.
All three arguably have the ability to be starters in the Scottish Premiership, meaning Gerrard has a big decision to make when selecting his number one.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he has revealed it’s a decision he has yet to make:
Right now they all see themselves as number ones and they have still got time to impress and stake their claim for number one. But, I am not stupid and I know the three goalkeepers are desperate for that number one position. Certainly, one of them is not going to be happy in the coming weeks but that is life, there is nothing I can do about it.
Right now sitting here, I don’t have a number one in my head. They have all started very strongly but I know I am going to have to have a tough conversation with one of them in the coming weeks.
The favourite to be number one right now is surely Allan McGregor considering he is a new arrival at the club and has a proven history of winning trophies with the Ibrox club.
Wes Foderingham has done well over the past few years but some aspects of his game are definitely lacking in support of his excellent shot-stopping ability. Jak Alnwick impressed when Foderingham dropped out towards the end of last season, but is likely to be the player that misses out on regular action.
There are arguments for all three going forward though and Gerrard must be happy to have so many strong options in the position.
Who do you think should be number one at the club next season?
