Rangers are set to miss out on Everton youngster Alex Denny as he puts pen to paper on a new deal at Goodison Park, as reported on the club's official website.

What's the story?

It was reported back in May that Rangers were interested in signing 18-year-old Denny from Everton after he impressed for the U23 squad and was selected for the first team squad in a Europa League game.

However, with Everton yet to bring in any new signings this summer, they have successfully tied down one of their hottest young talents with a new contract until 2020.

Not a huge loss

The England international would have found it difficult to break into the first team any time soon at Rangers and it won't be a huge loss to Steven Gerrard this season.

The midfielder will continue his development at Everton and since his contract is only two years, there's every chance that Steven Gerrard will look again at the young talent from his former club's Merseyside rivals.
