Steven Gerrard's Rangers will soon find out whether all the hype at Ibrox this summer has been justified.

The club have made over a dozen signings since the Liverpool icon arrived, completely transforming what was a failed and uninspiring first-team squad.

Although there have been multiple cycles of hype at the club over the past few years, remembering the early optimism of the Pedro Caixinha and Mark Warburton eras, the last few months have truly felt like something special is being built in Govan.

They've progressed through multiple rounds of UEFA Europa League qualifying, negotiated a tricky League Cup tie against Kilmarnock and remained unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership despite trips to Pittodrie and Fir Park.

However, it's the derby against Celtic on Sunday that will be the true test of this squad and everyone knows it.

Beat Brendan Rodgers' side and the discussion of a title race will be undeniable, lose handily again and everyone will be ready to burst the bubble of optimism.

One major selection decision Gerrard has on his hands is whether to start recent signing Kyle Lafferty or not.

The problem here is whether the Rangers boss can risk playing such an attacking side at Celtic Park, selecting Lafferty, Alfredo Morelos and then wide attacking talent too. Pragmatism could well be the way to go rather than a direct, aggressive and offensive side.

However, Lafferty's recent record against the Hoops is stunning, having scored a winner against them at Tynecastle for Hearts just a few weeks ago and scored more goals against them last season than any player in the Rangers squad.
