Rangers face the toughest test of their season so far on Thursday, but should Steven Gerrard switch things up in defence?

Rangers absolutely decimated Dundee on Saturday afternoon, but they face a much tougher test in the Europa League this week.

Gerrard’s side were devastatingly clinical in attack on Saturday, with goals from Lassana Coulibaly, Ryan Kent, James Tavernier and Glenn Middleton giving them a huge three points.

However, it’s in defence that the boss may soon be forced to change things around, as the first choice pairing of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic have already played an awful lot of games so early in the season.

While the extent of Gareth McAuley’s calf problem is not yet clear, Gerrard didn’t sound too concerned about it in the build-up to the Dundee clash, so could the Norther Irishman get his first start on Thursday?

The 38 year-old has 79 caps to his name, and this experience could prove vital in such a huge match. The Spaniards have loads of quality, and despite Katic and Goldson's great start to life at Ibrox they could implode if the hosts get a few early goals.

The young duo will of course remain the first choice pairing long term, but what is the point of building squad depth if you don’t use it?

So, Rangers fans, do you think McAuley should get the nod this week if he is fit? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
