As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rangers are interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Jamie Murphy in the January transfer window.
Ever since Barrie McKay left the club in the summer, Rangers have lacked natural attacking width on the left wing with various experiments not quite working out and players such as Josh Windass looking far more capable when playing through the middle.
In order to solve that problem position, it seems that Rangers are about to invest in January.
The Scottish Sun say that they’re preparing a £1.2m move for Brighton & Hove Albion man Jamie Murphy, with Director of Football Mark Allen placing him high up on the list of potential targets.
The paper reckon that while a loan deal is possible, Allen is pushing to bring the Scottish player to Ibrox on a permanent basis.
Jamie Murphy is a proven Scottish Premiership talent, having impressed at Motherwell for a number of years before making his move to Sheffield United in 2013. In his final season at the Steelmen he scored 10 goals in half a season, giving defences in the Scottish top-flight a torrid time.
Since then he’s impressed south of the border too, making 43 direct goal contributions at Sheffield United in two and a half seasons, before making his move to Brighton.
He was a regular for the Seagulls when they were still in the Championship but has struggled to get into the side now they’re in the Premier League and has made just four top-flight appearances this term.
His experience and ability would likely enhance the Rangers starting eleven, especially when they’re lacking a player of his type currently. Adding natural width to that left hand side could be the missing piece of the puzzle for Graeme Murty and if Murphy can hit form, he’d be a force to be reckoned with in the second half of the season.
