As reported by Turkish outlet Yeni Akit, Rangers are still in contention to bring Martin Skrtel to Ibrox this summer, with Fenerbahce seeking a swap deal that includes Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos.

What's the story?

Srktel was one of the first names linked with a move to Rangers after Steven Gerrard was appointed last month, before reports emerged that the Light Blues would not be able to afford funding the transfer.

However, it appears the £2.7m-rated Slovakian could well end up in the Scottish Premiership next term.

That's according to Yeni Akit, who report that representatives from Turkish side Fenerbahce will travel to Glasgow to try and negotiate the signature of Alfredo Morelos, willing to offer cash plus Skrtel to land him this summer.

Is this a swap move that Steven Gerrard should be pursuing?

Is this a good deal for Rangers?

Without knowing how much Fenerbahce are willing to offer in cash, plus Skrtel, it's hard to determine whether Light Blues supporters should be excited about the prospect of this deal going through or not.

After signing two defenders in Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson this week, the need for Skrtel is less than it was previously, but adding the 97-cap international to their squad would undoubtedly give them far more depth in central defence.

Morelos had a good first season at Ibrox, scoring 18 goals. However, he did struggle in big matches and there are question marks about his desire to stay at the club in the long-term.

If a healthy fee is offered for the Colombian, with the sweetener of Skrtel added, then this is something that Gerrard should strongly consider. Especially if he is already thinking of adding more forward options to his first team squad anyway.
