As reported by The Daily Mail, Rangers are interested in signing Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur this summer.

What's the story?

Already linked this week with moves for Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield, it appears that decision makers at Ibrox are intent on bringing talent from the top two English divisions north of the border this summer.

The latest to join that list is Scotland international James McArthur, whose contract at Crystal Palace expires at the end of the season.

That's according to The Daily Mail, who credit the Light Blues with an interest in the player.

Rated at £5.4m by Transfermarkt, it would quite a bargain to land the player on a free transfer this summer, but can they get the deal done?

A good signing?

Having spent seven of the last eight seasons making regular appearances in the English Premier League, it's clear McArthur has the talent and experience to be a stand out in the Scottish top-flight once again.

He initially made a splash in Scottish football as a youngster at Hamilton before forging a successful career for himself at Wigan Athletic and Crystal Palace.

A versatile midfield man with strong defensive attributes, he could be the high quality holding player that Rangers need to progress next season. This season they've looked lightweight in the middle of the park and McArthur would certainly help fix that.

Can they get the deal done and have the 32-cap Scotland international complement their more creative players next term?
