Rangers are crying out for a creative spark in the middle of the pitch, so why not make a January loan move for Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira?

What's the word?

Rangers have been superb defensively since Steven Gerrard’s arrival, but they are just lacking that final piece of quality when they go forward.

The Gers are still not far off the top of the table despite some disappointing setbacks, but if they are going to challenge for the title they need someone in the middle of the park who can play incisive passes to the front three.

Pereira could be just the man, as the crafty Man United starlet has completely fallen out of the picture under Jose Mourinho.

Teams are often reluctant to sell players in January, which is why a loan move makes perfect sense, and could be a win-win for all parties.

Just how good is he?

Many United fans felt Pereira was one of their better performers at the beginning of the season, but a bad 45 minutes at Brighton has seen him get tossed to the curb by Mourinho.

Mourinho’s controversial man-management skills don’t necessarily reflect the quality of the player though, and the youngster could be just what the Gers are missing in midfield.

The likes of Ryan Jack and Lassana Coulibaly are fantastic defensively, but they simply don’t have the technique and vision required to get the side on the front foot.

Scott Arfield is slightly more creative, but has nowhere near the raw talent of Pereira.

The 22-year-old can play anywhere across the midfield, and his passing and crossing would be a huge boost to the Gers’ attack.

He is also a set piece wizard, and set pieces were a huge part of Gerrard’s early success as the likes of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic got themselves on the scoresheet in crucial European games.

Pereira has the work rate required to be a fan favourite at Ibrox, and his vision and creativity is exactly what Gerrard’s side are currently missing.

There is no way he is going to get consistent playing time under Mourinho, and Frank Lampard is proving at Derby that loaning youngsters from the big six's hordes of talent is a shrewd move.
