Alfredo Morelos has been superb for Rangers this season, but the Gers should move to improve their attacking depth in January by signing Everton outcast Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

What's the word?

Rangers were strongly linked with Dominic Solanke this summer, as Steven Gerrard seemed desperate to add another young striker to his attacking ranks.

The Gers eventually sign Umar Sadiq on loan from Roma, and the towering Nigerian has not made the desired impact.

Calvert-Lewin has the strength and speed that Gerrard was looking for in Solanke and Sadiq, but also has far more first team experience than both of them combined.

The 21-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order at Everton due to Richarlison’s development as a central striker, and a loan move to Ibrox could be a win-win for all parties.

Solanke 2.0?

There’s no question Morelos deserves his starting role right now, but Calvert-Lewin would certainly give him a run for his money. You won’t find many 21 year-old’s with over 50 Premier League games under their belt, and this experience would make him a much better signing than Sadiq or Solanke.

The former Sheffield United ace has come under some scrutiny from Everton fans for his lack of end product, but with regular playing time and renewed confidence under Gerrard he could easily fix this.

He has scored six times in 14 appearances for the England Under-20 side, and added four goals in 11 games for the Under-21 side.

Not only does he know where the back of the net is, he also has the strength, speed, and work rate that Gerrard clearly expects from his strikers. The young Toffee never stops making runs down the channels, and his hold-up play is on par with Kyle Lafferty.

If Gerrard wants to add to his attack in January, he could do a lot worse than a loan move for Calvert-Lewin. The Everton starlet is extremely hard-working, versatile and strong, and a little competition for that starting spot could make Morelos even better.

So, Rangers fans, would you back a loan move Calvert-Lewin? Or would you rather go for Solanke again? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
