Opinion: Rangers should make loan move for Everton’s Dowell

Rangers are in desperate need of some creativity from the middle of the park, and a loan move for Everton’s Kieran Dowell could be a win-win for both clubs.

What’s the word?

Rangers fell out of the Europa League on Thursday, and there’s no question where the biggest weakness in Steven Gerrard’s squad lies.

The Liverpool legend has plenty of defensive midfielders, but not a single playmaker who can both score and create chances from midfield.

Dowell is not getting a look-in at Everton due to the red-hot form of Gylfi Sigurdsson, and the England Under-21 international has all the tools to fix Rangers’ biggest weakness.

How good is he?

The 21 year-old has a rocket of a left foot, a great eye for a pass and impressive composure on the ball for such a young player, but he needs to be playing 90 minutes week in week out.

He scored ten times during last season’s loan stay with Nottingham Forest, a very impressive return for his first full season of senior football.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...

Dowell is versatile enough to play virtually anywhere across the attack, but his best position would be as a number ten behind Morelos, where the two of them could use their pace, tenacity, skill and vision to cause absolute chaos.

The youngster has played just twice in all competitions this season, and is yet to play a single Premier League minute for the Toffees this season.

At 21, he should be desperate for the chance to prove himself on loan, and a trip to Ibrox could be a match made in heaven.
