Rangers fans blasted Kyle Lafferty for his performance at the weekend, so should Steven Gerrard try to upgrade the veteran striker with a move for Andy Carroll?

What's the word?

Carroll said recently that he wants to earn a new contract at West Ham, but the England international’s status as a fringe player for Manuel Pellegrini is going to make that very difficult.

The striker’s current deal runs out at the end of the season, meaning Rangers could sign him for a nominal fee in January, or even wait to sign him for free next summer.

The 29 year-old has had his fair share of injury problems, but he is a far better target man than Lafferty, and would truly give Gerrard something completely different to Alfredo Morelos.

The perfect plan B?

There’s no question that Gerrard needs to find support for Morelos, as the feisty Colombian international is never too far away from a suspension.

For all his incredible goalscoring form this season, the youngster simply cannot play every game, and has often found himself isolated when playing up front on his own.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he's still got it! Check out the video below...

Signing Carroll would give Gerrard a genuine plan B, and also the option of starting with two up front, something that could make Morelos’ life a lot easier as centre backs are forced to focus on Carroll.

Lafferty’s poor link-up play and woeful finishing so far this season has meant the Gers look like a completely different side when Morelos doesn’t play, but Carroll’s strength, aerial ability and rocket of a left foot will have teams on the back foot whether the Colombian is playing or not.

The West Ham ace has scored 53 Premier League goals and added 25 assists in his career so far, so should Rangers make a move for him as his contract runs down?
