Permanent move for Coulibaly should be Rangers’ top priority

Reports suggest Rangers could make Lassana Coulibaly’s loan move permanent, and it could just be Steven Gerrard’s greatest move yet.

What’s the story?

According to reports, Coulibaly will extend his stay at Ibrox “if the price is right”.

The report says early signs suggest he will be on the Gers’ shopping list next summer, which would be a huge statement of intent.

The 22 year-old quickly established himself as the first name on the teamsheet after arriving on loan this summer, but has been out with a thigh injury for the last few weeks.

If Gerrard can wrap up a deal to sign him on a permanent basis, it would be the manager’s greatest Rangers coup so far.

Just how good is he?

Gerrard and the Gers were extremely busy this summer, bringing in a whopping 15 players to revamp the squad. Gareth McAuley looks set to be a shrewd acquisition, while Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson have formed a wonderful partnership, but none of the 15 signings have the raw talent of Coulibaly.

The all-action midfielder was absolutely dominant in the Europa League qualifying rounds, scoring against Maribor and putting in consistent well-rounded performances before his injury.

He played 18 league games for Angers last season, and has already earned nine Mali caps. His work rate, tough tackling, and ability to carry the ball with his elite mixture of strength and technical ability has impressed fans since day one.

The appeal of playing under one of the greatest midfield players of all time should definitely appeal to him if a permanent move is on the table, and Gerrard and Rangers should absolutely pull the trigger, no matter the price.

So, Rangers fans, would you splash out to get Coulibaly permanently next summer? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
