Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is arguably the best player in Scotland based on current form, but the Glasgow club and manager Steven Gerrard will have their work cut out to hold onto him in January if clubs from the Premier League come calling.

Morelos netted a brilliant volley last weekend to complete a first-half turnaround against Hearts, taking his tally to 17 goals from 28 games in all competitions so far this season.

The 22-year-old, who makes life a living hell for the defenders he is up against, has also recorded an impressive 10 assists in that time, but his fondness for a scrap has also meant he has racked up 10 yellow cards.

His form has also earned him a debut for his national side Colombia, as he came off the bench as a 77th minute substitute in the friendly against Venezuela in September.

The youngster joined the Gers from Finnish side HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017, and although he netted 18 goals last season, he looks reborn and a far greater goal threat under Gerrard.

The former Liverpool legend could have a battle on his hands to keep his star man in January though, as a number of Premier League clubs start their search for goals to either keep them in the league or propel them up the table.

Looking to Scotland could also be a shrewd tactic for a number of Premier League clubs, whose scouts will point to the fact that Moussa Dembele joined Lyon from Celtic for just £19.7m in the summer transfer window - a drop in the ocean considering the riches that staying in the top flight would provide.

There are a number of teams that could come calling for Morelos. The most obvious of these are Crystal Palace, whose out and out strikers include the out-of-form Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew, Alexander Sorloth and Connor Wickham.

Roy Hodgson's side rely so heavily on Wilfried Zaha, but the Ivory Coast international is better out wide and Morelos could be the goalscorer that they are crying out for.

Everton are another side who could look to raid Gerrard's side. Summer signing Richarlison has played up front in recent weeks, but the other options for Marco Silva are Cenk Tosun or Dominic Calvert-Lewin, neither of whom have been clinical enough when given their chance under the new manager.

There is no doubt that Gerrard will fight tooth and nail to hold onto Morelos until at least the summer transfer window, but if his goalscoring form continues then the club may be inclined to accept a big bid from south of the border in January.
