Steven Gerrard wants to be reunited with Martin Skrtel at Rangers, per Fanatik.

The pair played together at Liverpool between 2008 and 2015, winning the League Cup in 2011-12, and the former Reds captain is now exploring the possibility of signing the Fenerbahce defender for the Scottish giants.

What's the word?

Skrtel's current contract at Fenerbahce expires at the end of the season, and he has been offered a renewal by the Turkish giants.

Fener are reported to have offered Skrtel a one-year deal worth €2m per year (£1.7m).

That is half of what the former Liverpool defender earns on his current deal, and there is no indication yet as to whether Skrtel will sign on.

Gerrard, though, is said to have been in contact with the defender in a bid to convince him to move to Scotland.

The two are reported to be close friends and there is a possibility that he could be persuaded to complete a move to Glasgow.

Gerrard should utilise Liverpool contacts

Gerrard could pull off a masterstroke in securing Skrtel, who, at the age of 34, still has the ability to play in the Scottish top-flight.

A hard-nosed, no-nonsense defender, Skrtel could add some much-needed steel to the Rangers backline in their bid to win the Scottish Premier League.

Gerrard would do well to keep doing this, with Liverpool alumni like Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Lazar Markovic all likely to be available in the near future - each would surely be a hit in Scottish football.

Of course, wages may well prove an issue, but Gerrard has the contacts in the game to build something of an all-star team; he just has to sell his project at Rangers.

Winning the SPL title would go a long way to doing just that.
