Rangers fans have taken to Twitter following the 1-0 loss to Celtic in the Betfred Cup final, and they are seriously livid with club captain James Tavernier.

Why? Well, the Gers were awarded a second-half penalty after teenage right-back Jeremie Frimpong felled Alfredo Morelos in the area, a moment that saw the youngster handed a straight red card while it was also a chance for Rangers to equalise.

However, the usual taker from 12 yards for Steven Gerrard, Tavernier, allowed Morelos to grab the ball and have an effort against Fraser Forster.

Now, it's always a risky decision to change your penalty taker mid-game, especially in a cup final of all the occasions, and Morelos seemed to let the pressure get to him as Forster saved the Colombia international's effort.

The miss proved crucial, as Neil Lennon's men went on to see out a 1-0 win with ten men, and a number of Rangers fans are absolutely livid with Tavernier.

One fan said that the Englishman is "never a Rangers captain" and also stated that Tavernier sums up the failure of the current team - harsh words indeed.

Another demanded that the 28-year-old "take responsibility" and perform like a Rangers captain should.

The hard-hitting words continued as another supporter called the right-back a "disgrace" and told him to walk away after handing his spot-kick to Morelos.

These two supporters below have been calling for Tavernier to be stripped of the captaincy following his decision in the cup final, with one saying that the full-back should be sacked as captain while Morelos should also be sold in January - the other fan thought that the Newcastle academy graduate bottled the penalty.

Lastly, this supporter thought that Tavernier was a "coward" for doing what he did.
