Rangers fans are keen on a short-term deal for defender Gareth McAuley

Rangers supporters are keen on bringing West Bromwich Albion defender Gareth McAuley to Ibrox this summer, after he was linked with a move to the club earlier this week.

Rangers badly need defensive improvements this summer after conceding far too many goals in the Scottish Premiership last season and despite being 38 years of age, are said to fancy a deal for McAuley.

The Daily Record reported that he is a target for Director of Football Mark Allen, after his contract expired at the relegated Baggies.

With over 200 career Premier League appearances and dozens of caps for Northern Ireland, he is as experience as they come at the top level and could bring steely determination to a lightweight defensive line.

However, at 38 years of age, there’s always an element of risk that his days performing consistently week-to-week are coming to an end.

Supporters seem eager regardless, believing he could be a perfect defensive partner for the potentially incoming Connor Goldson.

Is he the man to sort out the Light Blues defensive woes?
