Rangers supporters are keen on bringing West Bromwich Albion defender Gareth McAuley to Ibrox this summer, after he was linked with a move to the club earlier this week.
Rangers badly need defensive improvements this summer after conceding far too many goals in the Scottish Premiership last season and despite being 38 years of age, are said to fancy a deal for McAuley.
The Daily Record reported that he is a target for Director of Football Mark Allen, after his contract expired at the relegated Baggies.
With over 200 career Premier League appearances and dozens of caps for Northern Ireland, he is as experience as they come at the top level and could bring steely determination to a lightweight defensive line.
However, at 38 years of age, there’s always an element of risk that his days performing consistently week-to-week are coming to an end.
Supporters seem eager regardless, believing he could be a perfect defensive partner for the potentially incoming Connor Goldson.
Is he the man to sort out the Light Blues defensive woes?
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts…
It would be great if rangers signed Gareth mcAuley. He may be 38. But he has bags of experience in the premier league. Rangers signed Davie weir at 37. And he played with rangers till he was in his 40's

McAuley would be a good addition for a year or two. I could see him playing an important role for the next season or two in helping develop the likes of Aidan Wilson.

I’d be happy with McAuley on a years contract… he was a mainstay of that defence until Hegazi signed and is a real goal threat.

McCauley next to goldson would be ideal imo. McCauley never been known for pace but seems to be a solid defender.

Go for it ??. Experience needed too alongside https://t.co/RuH5I23PSF the fact he is a threat in opposition box so a centre back that pops up with say 6/7 goals a season always a bonus

If that is about Gareth Mcauley he will do a fantastic job. He’s a really good experienced player EPL and internationally wise and he knows what Rangers are all about. He will be a great role model for the young ones

It’s not popular and I can understand why but personally I would bite your hand off for Gareth McAuley at the moment. The guy is an organiser and a dominant defender in the air. Rangers don’t have either at the mo, even if Alves stays. He and Goldson could work well. 🤷🏼♂️

McAuley alongside Goldson would be perfect, Still holding onto any hope we'll sign Bartley though. https://t.co/WyKWoHsxnG
