It appears that Rangers transfer target Martin Skrtel won't be arriving at Ibrox anytime soon after the two parties were reported to have been vastly far apart on financial terms.

Skrtel has been linked with a move to the Light Blues for the last couple of weeks, reported to be one of incoming manager Steven Gerrard's big transfer priorities.

However, the financials of the deal didn't make much sense from the start.

Paying multiple millions of pounds for a player in his mid-30s isn't the transfer strategy that best suits the Light Blues right now, even if he would solve some short-term defensive problems at the club.

Supporters recognise that and despite being eager for him to pull on a Rangers shirt, don't seem too fazed by the news he won't be coming to Glasgow this summer.

Many want to see the club pursue more realistic targets on wages closer to what the Ibrox side can offer.
