Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to Sunday’s semi-final defeat, and they’re really not happy with Steven Gerrard’s decision to start Umar Sadiq.
Rangers missed the chance to set up an epic Old Firm League Cup final on Sunday, as the Gers fell to a drab 1-0 defeat at Hampden Park.
Gerrard will be particularly frustrated with the performance as his side were much the better team for large part of the match, but never really converted that pressure into clear-cut chances.
The Gers managed just one shot on target as Lewis Ferguson’s late header was enough to send Aberdeen through to the final, and fans are crucifying Sadiq’s performance.
The Roma loanee has hardly played this season due to the fantastic form of Alfredo Morelos, and his inexperience showed on Sunday.
He was actually better than he’s getting credit for in the first half, working the channels well and doing his best with limited service, but he looked lost in the second half.
The summer signing then got booked for diving when he looked to have the perfect chance to level the scores late on, and fans are not happy with Gerrard’s decision to start him.

Gerrard has to take most responsibility for that today, always way to late to make subs, wrong game plan. Coulibaly hasn’t turned up for weeks, McGregor should be coming for the cross and Sadiq has to stay on his feet there, shouldn’t have started in the first place.

Sorry but hes 100% to blame today imo

Why did he sign the guy? Because he is contracted to a big team? It cant be due to knowing hes a rop player. Bring back Dalcio!

Couldn’t agree more. I love Gerrard but once in a while it’s blindingly obvious he’s a rookie manager.

In summary –
Gerrard has to go.
Tavernier needs to go.
Sadiq must go.@RangersFC are going backwards and that won’t change until Dave King is out the door.

We’ve all known the situation regarding our strikers today, for weeks. If Gerrard had planned to play Sadiq then not giving him any first team game-time leading up to today makes absolutely no sense at all and in the light of the result, has to be seen as abject failure.

Rangers undoubtedly the better team throughout the match but they simply didn’t take their chances. Gerrard should done better than simply hope Sadiq would suddenly come good. Well done to Aberdeen.
