New Scotland manager Steve Clarke has named his first international squad and there was no room for any Rangers players - including midfielder Ryan Jack.

The 27-year-old has been a stand-out in Steven Gerrard's team over the last 12 months, with many Ibrox fans feeling he is now a vital part of the starting XI.

Pundits such as Barry Ferguson had recently tipped him to play a big role in upcoming qualifiers for Scotland, but it appears Clarke disagrees with that kind of assessment.

Scotland play Belgium and Cyprus next month and the former Killie boss appears to have turned to players he knows and trusts to pick up good results in his first big tests as manager.

Jack has previously won six caps with his country but with strong competition like Callum McGregor and Stuart Armstrong available in midfield, he could have an uphill battle to convince his new international manager he is worthy of inclusion.
