A recent report from the Sunday Post claims AS Roma have taken a keen interest in Borna Barisic following his excellent opening to the campaign.
The report claims the Italian giants are willing to dig deep to secure his services, though Rangers have now opened talks with Barisic over a contract extension.
The Croatia international struggled to make a telling impact at Ibrox last season but he has since put his tepid maiden campaign behind him.
In the current season he has already claimed 13 assists from full-back and been a considerably stronger defensive force, but Charlie Nicholas doesn’t seem to be bowled over by his form.
Indeed, writing in his Daily Express column (via Daily Record), the Sky Sports pundit claimed £7m or £8m “wouldn’t be a bad return” if the Gers sell up.
Given his progress this season, it was absolutely no surprise to see plenty of the Ibrox faithful fume at the 58-year-old’s verdict, with one even suggesting he must be watching a different sport.
Charlie Nicholas claiming Barisic is worth ‘£7 or £8m’ here – what sport is he actually watching?
Bidding starts at £25m for the first choice left back for the World Cup finalists in his absolute prime. pic.twitter.com/5bwOrhcxKR

A variety of alternative transfer fees were discussed in response to Nicholas’ verdict.
Fees ranging from £15m to £25m were put forward and one fan suggested that a fee below £20m would represent daylight robbery.
Clearly, the 27-year-old is a popular figure at the club right now.
Borna is a baller complete modern full back but can actually defend. Wand of a left foot anything under 20 million would be daylight robbery.

They set the benchmark with Tierney in my opinion Barisic is the highest calibre of modern day left back we shouldn’t be accepting anything less than 25+ even more so he’s number one choice for Croatia

The days of us selling our best players for peanuts is long gone Chris. Barisic is a experienced International for Croatia & in today’s market, £20 million should be the entry point just to talk to him!

Only thing keeping his value down would be his age 27 most clubs like to buy potential with a sell on value now but still would be looking for at least £15m to start the talks

Meanwhile, one supporter suggested that Barisic is even better than Kieran Tierney.
If we’re going by that logic, the Croatia international should command a fee that dwarfs Nicholas’ suggestion.
He’s better imo…. he’s the first choice LB for the World Cup finalists, better technique also

Finally, this fan claimed that Tierney’s transfer has set the benchmark for the price of a top SPFL left-back and concluding by saying Nicholas’ valuation would only be enough to secure Barisic’s weaker right foot.
I still laugh at the Tierney value, but hey sorry to say but it set the benchmark! £7-8m for one leg maybe (right one at that) of Borna bear 🔴⚪️🔵🇬🇧🇭🇷
