Rangers fans jump to Flanagan’s defence following red-card drama in Europa League

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has now gone 12 games unbeaten since taking over at Ibrox.

The latest result came in the form of a 1-1 draw against Ufa, which was enough to send the Gers into the group stages of the Europa League.

The game itself was very eventful as Alfredo Morelos, who is at the centre of contract rumours, was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession.

The young striker was booked for kicking the ball away in frustration and sent off moments later for confronting the referee.

Jon Flanagan was also given his marching orders as he was hit with a second booking for appearing to lead with his elbow in an aerial challenge.

The incident was not as black and white as Morelos’s actions, but Flanagan, who began his career at Liverpool, apologised to his teammates and the fans after the final whistle.

Plenty of supporters, though, feel that the apology is unnecessary.
